About GIFUP

GIFUP started in 2007 as an avatar and animation generator, back when every forum signature and MySpace profile needed something that moved. It made 1,288,647 animations before the web moved on and the site went quiet.

The domain came back in 2026 to do the same job with the tools of the current decade. The difference is where the work happens: browsers can now run a full video encoder themselves, so nothing you convert here is uploaded anywhere. Your file is read from your disk, processed in the tab, and handed back to you.

What that changes

Most converters are a web page in front of a server farm. They have to limit what you feed them, queue you behind other people, hold your file for an hour or eight, and find a way to pay for the machines. None of that applies here, which is why there are no accounts, no file size caps and no watermarks, and why your video never becomes someone else's problem to store.

It also means the speed is your machine's speed, and a very large file can exhaust what a browser tab is allowed to hold. That trade is deliberate.

What is here

Four tools today — video to GIF, a compressor, a resizer, and GIF to MP4 — with cropping and captions next. Each is a single page that does one thing, because that is how people actually arrive: with one job and no interest in learning an editor.

Who runs it

A small independent operation, not a company with a sales team. If something is broken or a tool you need is missing, say so — that is genuinely how the list gets decided.
