The short version

GIFUP is free to use, for personal and commercial work alike. What you make with it is yours, and we do not see it unless you choose to host it with Get a link or send a sticker through WhatsApp. In return, use it on material you have the right to use, and do not expect guarantees from a free tool.

What you may convert

Files you own or are licensed to use. Do not use GIFUP to process material you have no right to, and do not use it to create anything unlawful. Conversion happens entirely on your device, so we have no technical way to see, review or block what you feed it. That makes this your responsibility rather than ours.

GIFUP does not download from YouTube, TikTok or any other platform, and adding such a feature is not planned.

Hosted files

Get a link publishes a file on our server at a public address. By using it you confirm that you have the right to publish that file and you grant us permission to store it and serve it to anyone who opens the link. You keep every other right.

Do not host anything unlawful, anything that shows a person who has not agreed to it, sexual content involving minors, malware, or material that infringes someone else's copyright or trademark. We remove such files when we find them or when they are reported, and we may block an address that keeps uploading them. Reports are handled by a person; copyright owners can use the report form on the file's page or the contact page.

Hosting is a convenience, not an archive. Keep your own copy. We may limit upload size and frequency, remove files that have not been viewed for a long time, and switch the feature off, without notice.

Stickers sent through WhatsApp

The Send to my WhatsApp feature delivers a sticker back to the person who made it. It may only be used for content you have the right to share and that WhatsApp's own policies allow. We may refuse delivery, limit how often the feature can be used, or switch it off for anyone abusing it.

No warranty

The tools are provided as they are. Conversion can fail on an unusual codec, a damaged file or one too large for your browser to hold, so always keep your original. We are not liable for lost work, missed deadlines or anything else arising from using or being unable to use the site.

Availability

We try to keep the site up and the tools working, but we do not promise either. Tools may change or be replaced as browsers change.

The software underneath

Conversion is powered by FFmpeg, compiled to WebAssembly by the ffmpeg.wasm project. The build we ship is the unmodified @ffmpeg/core 0.12.6 package, compiled with libx264, libx265 and libvpx, so it is distributed under the GNU GPL version 2 or later. Its source is at the link above; the glue code on this site is our own. We are grateful for FFmpeg and claim no ownership of it.
