Your files

Files you open in any GIFUP tool are never uploaded. Conversion runs inside your browser through a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg, so your video or GIF is read from your own disk into the tab's memory and the result is written back to you. It does not cross the network, we never receive it, and there is nothing for us to store or delete.

Closing or reloading the tab discards everything. We keep no copies, no thumbnails and no conversion history.

What we do collect

GIFUP uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which tools people use. It records the usual anonymous measurement data — approximate location from your IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, referring site — and sets cookies to recognise a returning browser. It never receives the files you convert or their names, because those never leave your device. Google's handling of that data is covered by Google's privacy policy.

Our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, time, requested page, browser) for security and troubleshooting.

Storage on your device

We store your light or dark theme choice in your browser's local storage, and when you drop a video on the home page it is held briefly in the browser's own database so the tool page can pick it up. Both live on your device only, and clearing your browser data removes them.

Third parties

Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google's servers to fetch them. Apart from that and Analytics, no third-party scripts run on this site. We do not sell, share or trade any data, because we do not have any worth trading.

Children

GIFUP is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under 13.

Your rights

If you are in the EU, the UK or another region with data protection law, you may ask what we hold about you and ask us to delete it. In practice that is limited to analytics records and server logs. Write to us at the contact page. You can opt out of Analytics entirely with Google's browser add-on or any tracker blocker.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
